How CBD Topicals And Transdermal Creams Work

CBD, or cannabidiol as it is scientifically known is available for use in several forms. This includes balms, creams, salves, serums and lotions for application directly onto the skin. These can be topical (non-absorbing) or transdermal (absorbing).

Topical CBD

CBD balms, lotions and creams that are grouped as topicals are applied in a localised area (such as muscles, face, joints) and work only on the surface of the skin the upper layers of the epidermis.

Transdermal CBD

CBD is a naturally occurring compound found in plants. CBD is believed to have many benefits when applied as a cream, balm or lotion directly to the skin. Some people believe it sooths sore muscles, aids with aches and pains and helps certain skin conditions. CBD used in a topical form may help with anti-aging, inflammation, pain soothing and other benefits. Scientific studies are still being undertaken to determine the full extent and nature of the benefits of CBD and its many uses.

CBD creams are absorbed by the surface layer of the skin when applied to a specific area, such are muscles, joints with balms and creams or face, neck and hands with serums and face creams. The CBD is delivered transdermal by enter the blood stream via the skin, the CBD then interacts with the bodies endocannabinoid system and the cannabinoid receptors already with our bodies.

CBD balms, CBD creams, CBD lotions and CBD salves that are transdermal usually take an hour or two to take effect and for their benefits be noticed.

CBD Dosages & Daily Use

It is important to check the type of CBD balms, CBD creams, CBD lotions and CBD salves you use to ensure you have the best suited product for your needs.

The amount of product (CBD balm, CBD cream, CBD lotion and CBD salve) used also impacts the effectiveness of the CBD. The dosage and percentage of CBD in a cream or balm can also impact it effectiveness. The higher the percentage of CBD in a product, the more effective it may appear to be.

Regular use of CBD topicals and transdermal products, daily has shown to have better effects long term and produce good results. One-off use is beneficial however building up the effects over a period of time is preferable.
